(VOVWORLD) - A ceremony took place on Monday in Dak Lak province to mark the 50th anniversary of the Buon Ma Thuot Victory. Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha attended the event.

In the spring of 1975, the Politburo and the Central Military Commission decided to launch a Central Highlands campaign to liberate the Southern Central Highlands provinces and create a new strategic position on the battlefield of the entire Southern region.
The Buon Ma Thuot Victory led to the victories of the Central Highlands operation in March, then the General Offensive and Uprising of the Spring of 1975, the complete liberation of South Vietnam, and national reunification.
Addressing the event, Nguyen Dinh Trung, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, said that after 50 years of liberation, Dak Lak has become a political and economic center of the Central Highlands region.
“We’ve applied valuable lessons from the Buon Ma Thuot Victory to the development of Dak Lak in regards to strategic vision, tactics, and the great solidarity among local ethnic groups. Great solidarity among ethnic groups is both the target and the driving force for Dak Lak to grow in the coming time,” said Trung.
