HCM City’s Metro Line 1 officially inaugurated
(VOVWORLD) - Ho Chi Minh City’s Metro Line 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) was officially inaugurated on Sunday after more than two months of commercial operation.
The event coincided with the 10th Vietnam-Japan Festival, a symbol of friendship between the two countries.
Vietnam’s first metro line with underground sections, the 19.7 km project was funded by Japanese ODA and domestic counterpart funding. Since its launch on December 22, 2024, the metro has served over 5 million passengers.
HCMC Chairman Nguyen Van Duoc reaffirmed the city’s commitment to completing 7 metro lines with a total length of 355 km by 2035, aiming for public transport to handle 50% of urban travel demand.
Miyazaki Katsura, Executive Senior Vice President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency, expressed hope for continued cooperation in expanding metro systems across Vietnam.
