(VOVWORLD) - Palestinian Ambassador to the UN Riyad Mansour on Tuesday called on the world leaders and the international community to respect the Palestinians’ desire to stay in Gaza. He made the statement after US President Donald Trump proposed resettling Gaza residents in other countries.

Mansour affirmed that Gaza is the homeland of the Palestinian people. Despite much of the land being destroyed, the Palestinians still choose to return home, and their decision and aspirations should be respected.
At a press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu following their talks at the White House early on Tuesday, President Trump proposed resettling Palestinians in other countries, regardless of their desire to leave or not, and transforming the territory into the "Riviera of the Middle East."
The Riviera is a region along the Mediterranean coast, stretching from southeastern France to northeastern Italy, renowned for its climate and stunning landscapes.
After calling for the permanent ‘resettlement’ of all Palestinians from Gaza earlier in the day, Trump said the US would 'take over' and envision 'long-term' US ownership of Gaza.
