(VOVWORLD) - India and Pakistan announced retaliatory measures on Thursday following a deadly terrorist attack earlier this week that killed 26 tourists in Pahalgam, the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs said visas issued to Pakistani citizens will be revoked as of Sunday. Medical visas will remain valid until Tuesday. The ministry advised Pakistani nationals currently in India to leave before their visas expire, and urged Indian citizens to avoid travel to Pakistan. Those already there were told to return as soon as possible.
The Pakistani government warned that any attempt by India to stop or divert the flow of water will be considered an act of war. The warning came after India said it will suspend the Indus Waters Treaty, a decades-old agreement between the two countries.
Pakistan also announced the immediate closure of the Wagah border crossing to India’s Punjab state and cancelled all visas issued to Indian citizens under the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Visa Exemption Scheme, except for Sikh pilgrims. Indians currently in Pakistan under those visas have 48 hours to leave.
Pakistani authorities said Indian-owned or operated airlines will no longer be allowed to use Pakistan’s airspace, and all trade with India, including transit through third countries, will be halted immediately.
