Trump signs order imposing sanctions on International Criminal Court
(VOVWORLD) - President Donald Trump on Thursday signed an executive order sanctioning the International Criminal Court, accusing the body of improperly targeting the United States and Israel.

In his first term, Trump argued that the ICC has “no jurisdiction, no legitimacy and no authority” in the US, and neither the US nor Israel are parties to the Rome Statute, which established the court.
The order says the US will impose “tangible and significant consequences” on those responsible for the ICC’s “transgressions.” Actions may include blocking property and assets and not allowing ICC officials, employees, and relatives to enter the United States.
Last week, US Senate Democrats blocked an effort by Republicans to sanction the ICC for issuing arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former defense minister Yoav Gallant over Israel's campaign in Gaza.
This is the second time the ICC has faced retaliatory measures from the US. In 2020, during President Trump’s first term, Washington imposed sanctions on ICC prosecutor Fatou Bensouda and one of her top aides over the ICC's investigation into alleged war crimes by American troops in Afghanistan.
