The announcement was made following a phone call between the two leaders and the US President is seeking ways to advance efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

However, the Russian public remain cautious about the progress of Russia-US relations. Russian politicians say it’s too early to talk about a turning point.

Deputy Senate Speaker Konstantin Kosachev noted that breakthroughs in relations between Russia and the United States are still far away, despite the telephone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US leader Donald Trump, because the relationship has been damaged for too long.

Alexei Pushkov, head of the Federation Council's commission on information policy, warned of potential disruption of the emerging dialog between Russia and the United States by those opposing improved ties.

State Duma Defense Committee Chairman Andrei Kartapolov emphasized Russia’s military role in resolving the conflict.
