Vietnam – EU’s leading trade partner in ASEAN

During the meeting, Chief Justice Le Minh Tri emphasized that the visit contributed to fostering mutual understanding and information exchange, further strengthening the solid partnership between Vietnam and EU member states.

Reflecting on the Vietnam–EU relationship, he said that diplomatic relations were established in 1990, followed by the signing of the Vietnam–EU Partnership Cooperation Agreement, which came into force in 2016. Since then, bilateral ties have grown significantly across a wide range of sectors, including politics and diplomacy, defense and security, science and technology, cyber security, education and training, climate change response, as well as law and justice.

Ambassador Julien Guerrier affirmed the EU’s strong support for Vietnam over the past three decades in promoting sustainable development and advancing key national objectives. He highlighted that, thanks to robust bilateral cooperation and progress, Vietnam is currently the EU’s leading trade partner within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
