The agreement was reached during talks in Jakarta between Vietnamese Party General Secretary To Lam and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto.

Mr. Lam and Mr. Prabowo reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening political trust through enhanced high-level exchanges across all channels, including Party, Government, and parliamentary cooperation. They also emphasized the importance of expanding people-to-people, interlocal, and business connections to further solidify bilateral ties.

Both leaders pledged to effectively implement existing bilateral cooperation mechanisms and accelerate the development of an Action Program to maximize collaboration across all sectors.

They agreed to deepen defence and security cooperation, with a focus on information sharing, search-and-rescue coordination, and joint efforts to combat transnational crimes. Particular emphasis will be placed on tackling online fraud networks, human trafficking, forced labour, and terrorism threats.

On the economic front, both sides committed to expanding and deepening economic cooperation, fostering stronger trade and investment linkages based on mutual benefit. They vowed to eliminate trade barriers, facilitate business activities—particularly in agriculture and aquaculture—and work towards achieving balanced bilateral trade of $18 billion.

Additionally, the two leaders pledged to enhance agricultural cooperation and food security, while encouraging and supporting bilateral investment, especially in emerging sectors such as digital economy, green economy, energy transition, electric vehicle ecosystem development, e-commerce, smart logistics, digital payments, software design and outsourcing, AI-driven technological solutions, and Halal product development.

Party General Secretary To Lam told a press meeting after the talks: “The establishment of Vietnam-Indonesia comprehensive strategic partnership is a historic milestone, opening a new era for cooperation between the two countries on all channels and fields. It will deepen bilateral relations for the benefit of their peoples and contribute to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and around the world.”

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto welcomed the signed agreements which will contribute to socio-economic development of the two countries. He expressed his hope to visit Vietnam again soon.
