At their meeting, PM Luxon praised the strong growth of the Vietnam-New Zealand relations over 50 years of their diplomatic ties and five years of their strategic partnership. He highlighted their high level of political trust, noted their similarities, and said there remains significant potential for cooperation in emerging fields, in addition to traditional areas like agriculture and education.

During the Vietnam-New Zealand political consultation, both agreed to enhance political trust through more bilateral exchanges and consultations, strengthen defense and security cooperation, and implement practical measures to facilitate market access for each other's products, towards meeting a two-way trade target of 3 billion USD.

They also agreed to further collaborate in climate change response, energy transition, science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation; make these fields new pillars of their bilateral relations; and leverage each other’s strengths and potential.

Regarding regional and international issues of mutual concern, Vietnam and New Zealand stressed the critical importance of maintaining peace, stability, security, safety, and freedom of navigation in the East Sea. Countries must respect international law and resolve disputes through peaceful means on the basis of international law, they added.
