According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), shrimp exports in 2024 generated 3.9 billion USD, a 14% increase from the previous year. China imported nearly 850 million USD, up 39%, surpassing the US’s 756 million USD.
VASEP attributed this surge to several factors, including a decline in China’s domestic shrimp supply due to unfavorable weather. China is also the largest buyer of lobster from Vietnam, buying approximately 99% of the total.
Last year Vietnam's seafood exports totaled more than 10 billion USD. Shrimp, which generated 4 billion USD, and catfish, which generated 2 billion USD, were the two main items.
