(VOVWORLD) -The Government has rolled up sleeves and expedited major projects, including the North-South railway, the Lao Cai-Hanoi-Hai Phong railway, and urban railway routes in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said on Saturday.

The PM, who leads the Steering Committee for key projects and national railway projects, chaired the second meeting of the Steering Committee in Hanoi on Saturday. He said investing in the construction of railways involves many stages and high costs, and requires great effort, determination, and understanding of railway technology.
To address challenges, Prime Minister Chinh suggested, “The railway project passes through whichever province, that province must clear the land, build and operate the station. Maximize self-reliance of localities. Ministries and sectors only do state management. The Government has recently assigned the provinces and cities, which I think is very good.”

The Prime Minister called for increased application of science and technology, improved quality and efficiency of operations, advanced technology in railway construction, management and exploitation, as well as high-quality human resources to operate modern railway systems.
