(VOVWORLD) -Work has started on preparations for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting to be held in 2027 in Vietnam’s resort city of Phu Quoc.

At a launching ceremony on Friday in Phu Quoc city, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha urged the leaders of Kien Giang province, Phu Quoc city as well as central agencies to promptly establish a steering committee for organizing the 2027 APEC Summit Week.
He stressed the need to well carry out investment preparation, site clearance, and security assurance for projects serving APEC, step up investment promotion, attract domestic and international strategic investors to infrastructure projects serving APEC and serve the socio-economic development of Phu Quoc in the long term.
“We must be well aware that hosting the APEC Summit Week is a responsibility, an extremely heavy task, and a special opportunity to enable Phu Quoc to become a world center and one of the most beautiful tourist paradises on the planet, which is capable to organize world-class events of Vietnam, Kien Giang and Phu Quoc,” said Deputy PM Ha.

Kien Giang province has just finalized list of key projects serving APEC. It will expand Phu Quoc international airport and An Thoi seaport, and build APEC boulevard and multi-functional complex.
