(VOVWORLD) -Russia and Ukraine blamed each other on Sunday for breaking a one-day Easter truce announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote on social media X that Russia had carried out 26 attacks from midnight to Sunday noon (local time).
The Russian Defense Ministry said that Ukrainian forces had attacked its positions 444 times, and more than 900 drone attacks, inflicting damage to infrastructure and causing some civilian deaths.
On Saturday, President Putin announced an Easter ceasefire starting from 6 p.m. the same day until midnight on Sunday into Monday.
The Russian Defense Ministry said the ceasefire is for humanitarian purposes and will be respected by the Russian military “provided that Ukraine complies” with the ceasefire.
President Zelensky said that his country will comply with the Easter ceasefire proposed by Russia and suggested extending the ceasefire until after Easter.
