Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for the UN Secretary-General, reported that Israeli forces raided the Kalandia Training Center, operated by the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), and attempted to close three other UNRWA schools. The raids affected 250 students at three schools in East Jerusalem and 350 students at the Kalandia Training Center.
This move followed the passage of a law by the Israeli Parliament restricting UNRWA’s activities in Gaza, East Jerusalem, and the West Bank, based on allegations of links between some of the agency's employees and Hamas.
The Israeli government’s position and the new legal measures have raised concerns about the future of UNRWA’s humanitarian work in the region.
