The settlers worked hard to transform the once-barren coastal wetlands into fertile farmlands, creating a prosperous agricultural and fishing community. Over generations, they were venerated as Tien Cong (Founding Fathers) by their descendants, who built Tien Cong temple to honor them.

The festival has since become a sacred tradition, expressing gratitude to these ancestors while promoting community unity and respect for the elderly. This is also the time for children and grandchildren to celebrate the longevity of the elderly with a procession to Tien Cong temple.

On February 4, 35 elderly people aged 80, 90 and 100 were carried in a procession on hammocks to Tien Cong Temple to worship their ancestors.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism recognized the Tien Cong Festival as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2017.
