(VOVWORLD) - On Saturday, Israel and Hamas carried out the largest exchange of prisoners and hostages since the Gaza ceasefire agreement took effect on January 19.

According to the Palestinian Prisoners Club, Israeli authorities released 602 Palestinian prisoners, including 445 detained in Gaza during the conflict and 50 serving life sentences.
This marks the highest number of Palestinian detainees freed since the ceasefire began more than a month ago.
In return, Hamas released six Israeli hostages, the largest such release since the start of the truce. The list of released hostages was provided to Israel through international mediators.
