PM sets date of eliminating makeshift, dilapidated houses

(VOVWORLD) -Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Monday urged more strenuous efforts to speed up the progress and basically achieve the goal of eliminating makeshift and dilapidated houses by October 31 this year.

Chairing the 3rd meeting of the Steering Committee for the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses in Hanoi, the Prime Minister emphasized the profound humanistic significance of this program as it shows gratitude and repays the meritorious people, demonstrates great national unity and responsibility for the people, especially the disadvantaged and those in the remote areas.

PM Chinh stressed the need to diversify resources to implement the program, saying the major localities such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Bac Ninh, Quang Ninh, and Dong Nai need to support the localities that are facing difficulties.

According to the Steering Committee, Vietnam has supported the elimination of 121,000 temporary and dilapidated houses. More than 65,000 houses have been handed over, and more than 56,000 are under construction. Six localities have completely wiped out temporary and dilapidated houses.

More than 101,000 houses must be demolished by the end of this year. On average, every day, about 500 temporary and dilapidated houses must be eliminated nationwide and each province eradicates eight houses per day.
